Alison teaches the Alexander Technique, which can help to improve posture, coordination, balance and mange and prevent pain. Alison can particular help you look at all those bad habits that affect the natural posture. The British Medical Journal recently published a new clinical research trial by Little et al (2008), which identified that lessons in the Alexander Technique have long term benefits for chronic back pain.
The Alexander technique is taught in music and drama colleges and can help in performing or playing an instrument with less stress, strain and tension. It can also help in managing anxiety and stress including stage fright and anxiety associated with performance.
Sports people can improve flexibility, timing and efficiency, to be on form more consistently. Horse riders can learn to balance in the saddle with minimum effort. This can improve their riding, enable them to communicate better with their horse and prevent backache and other posture related problems.
It can help during pregnancy (antenatal and postnatal). It helps the mother cope and adapt her posture to the weight of the growing baby and therefore avoid pregnancy complaints such as backache, breathlessness and tiredness. The technique can enable the mother to learn movements and positions to facilitate and ease natural labour and help her body to recover after labour.

After gaining a science degree at the University of the West of England, Gemma went on to gain a diploma in Sports and Remedial Massage Therapy at the North London School of Sports Massage (NLSSM). She is currently a member of the Institute of Sports and Remedial (ISRM).
Gemma intends to enhance her skills and techniques in sports and remedial massage by completing frequent ‘Continued Professional Development’ courses. She has recently completed a course in ‘Myofascial Meridians’, exploring techniques in releasing tension within the fascia surrounding the soft tissue and relating posture and movement patterns to pain.
Gemma gains further experience in sports massage by providing pre and post race massage at local triathlons and running club races including the ‘Bury 20’ road race. She treats a variety of clients, not only sports men and women but also office workers with poor posture after sitting at a desk all day, busy Mums who just need help relaxing and many others with injuries, aches and pains.
